If you are weighing up short-term lenders in Texas, Missouri or Utah, the honest answer is
that we are not going to tell you what a competitor charges. Pricing moves, it varies by state and by
applicant, and a lender quoting someone else’s numbers on its own website is not a source you should
trust. What we can give you is the method professionals use to compare offers, and the official places
to check any lender before you hand over your details.
The five checks, in order
- Is the lender licensed in your state? This comes first, before price. Search the
company at NMLS Consumer
Access, or call your state regulator. An unlicensed lender has no obligation to treat you fairly and
no regulator to answer to. - What is the APR, not the monthly payment? A longer term always makes the payment
look smaller and the total cost bigger. The
APR is the comparison figure. - What is the total of payments? Amount financed plus finance charge. This is the
number you will actually have paid by the end, and it is the one that tends to surprise people. - What happens if you are late? Late fees, returned-payment fees, and whether the
lender will work with you. Ask before you sign, and get the answer in writing. - Can you repay early without penalty? Some lenders charge for it. Loan Ridge does
not.
Where to check any lender
- All states: NMLS Consumer Access
- Texas: Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner, (512) 936-7600. Chapter 342 covers regulated consumer lenders, Chapter 393 covers credit access businesses.
- Missouri: Division of Finance, (573) 751-3242. RSMo 367.100-367.215 and 408.510.
- Utah: Department of Financial Institutions, (801) 538-8830. Title 70C.
- Complaints: Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Where Loan Ridge sits
So you can compare us on the same five points:
- States: Texas, Missouri and Utah only. If you live elsewhere, we cannot help you,
and any site offering you a Loan Ridge loan in another state is not us. See
how to verify Loan Ridge. - Maximum: $2,000.
- Credit check: a soft inquiry, which does not affect your FICO score.
- Repayment: fixed scheduled installments, not a single lump sum on payday.
- Early repayment: allowed, with no extra fee.
- Cost: disclosed to you in writing, in full, before you accept anything. Rates, fees
and terms vary by state. We do not publish a single headline rate here because it would not be true for
every applicant. - Approval: not guaranteed. It depends on income and our underwriting criteria.
Alternatives that are not a loan at all
Worth saying, because a loan is not always the right tool:
- Ask the biller. Utilities, medical providers and landlords frequently offer payment plans, and they
are almost always cheaper than borrowing. - A nonprofit credit counselor. Free or low-cost, and the right call if the shortfall repeats every
month rather than being a one-off. - A credit union small-dollar loan, if you are eligible to join one.
- An employer payroll advance, where offered.
If you have read all that and a small installment loan is still the right fit, our
installment loans,
no credit check loans and
bad credit loans pages set out what we offer, and the
lending glossary explains any term you are unsure about.
This page is general education, not financial advice, and it makes no claims about any other
company’s products or pricing. Loan Ridge lends only in Texas, Missouri and Utah, up to $2,000. Rates,
fees and terms vary by state and are disclosed before you accept any loan. Loan Ridge does not
guarantee approval. Last reviewed: August 2026.
